Life after The Tourism Academy @ Sentosa

Gao Chen, Demi , Xiamen, China

I thank the school for giving us such a wonderful orientation. I found the field trip around Singapore very relevant and enjoyable. I particularly like this picture of myself in the National Museum. It is the most interesting place I have ever been since coming to Singapore. The National Museum has lots of funny stuff and it gives us information in an easy and impactful way. I shall bring my family there when they next visit me.

"After starting the course in TAS, we feel that we are more engaged with the real world. The fact that TAS stresses the importance of having a global outlook made us more receptive to the world outside. Moreover, having the opportunity to interact with classmates from other countries aided us in understanding different cultures and backgrounds. We believe that what we have learnt today would definitely be of good use for us in the future."

"I could have had the opportunity to study in Switzerland, but I chose Singapore instead because of its multi-culturalism. I know that in future I will be dealing with people from different parts of the world in the tourism industry. Therefore, this exposure in Singapore is very relevant and exciting for me.

I have no regrets. I am enjoying every moment in school.  I would encourage anyone who aspires to know the Asian culture more deeply to come and join us at The Tourism Academy @ Sentosa."

I enjoy studying at The Tourism Academy @ Sentosa, especially because it is on Sentosa Island. I have made lots of good friends and enjoyed studying with international students who come from different countries. At the same time, I am learning from them about their countries and the different cultures. Learning has been difficult at times due to my language background, different teaching methods and even the weather! However, being able to learn my favourite subject on tourism makes me happy to live and study in Singapore.

“It’s been comfortable living in Singapore but also challenging. I met many friendly people from all over the world since the first time I came to Singapore. I thought living cost could be expensive but after 4 months in Singapore, I can find  various foods at reasonable prices that are very delicious.”

“At The Tourism Academy, we were also encouraged to learn and work in small groups through group projects. As group members come from different countries like China, Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia, we speak English with different accents and also understand certain terms differently. So in our first term, effective communication on academic subjects was often a challenge. Over time, I developed communication skills that helped to overcome the challenges.”

“There are certain things that should be kept in mind when considering this course. It is one of the best courses available here in Hospitality & Tourism, and therefore it is demanding and challenging. Since it is recognised internationally by renowned universities, it could be a stepping stone to further education or to an exciting career in any of the numerous sectors of the hospitality & tourism industry.

My personal experience here thus far has seen many highs and a few challenging times. During the demanding times I have reminded myself that these will make me stronger and more prepared for the working world. Overall I have enjoyed myself immensely, learnt loads of exciting concepts, met some great people and found some really good friends here.”

“3 points that I would like to share of this diploma – I got to experience abundant opportunities in real business settings, learn in a government institution known for its industry-relevant education, and learn from lecturers with strong educational qualifications and vast industry experience.”

“I would say that if anyone plans on taking this course I would simply say “go for it” because it trains you in the best possible way and you have the experience of your life with different people and you never feel lonely because everyone in the campus be he or she a senior, or your batch mate is ready to offer a helping hand. I have taken up this course and honestly, I have no regrets at all.”

“Although the fees are high, it is well worth it. The school is an interesting heritage building with comprehensive facilities. It is in the heart of a busy resort island so we experience ‘tourism’ up close. And our lecturers are well-qualified and caring.”

“Our lecturers, too, come with rich experience from the industry, and the real-life examples they share with us are insightful and “really happening”! Before joining this course, I used to wonder what The Tourism Academy meant by “Real People”. Now I know. I am glad I chose to be a student here.”

“Problem Based Learning is something that I really enjoyed as it allowed me, along with my group-mates, to find solutions to problems. The facilities and the curriculum are tailor made to prepare us for business realities and to equip us with the required tools to succeed.”
